Picking spikes
- Intro
- Nike Zoom Rival series.
- Sprints
- Solid across brands. Nike Max Flys are the most popular.
- Jumps
- Asics has historically been the most reliable. If using Nike for jumps, use its Triple Jump spike for Long Jump and Pole Vault.
- Throws
- Asics or Nike. Normal training shoes work if the ring is wet or slick.
- Mid-Distance
- Personal preference. Nike Zoom Victory series is solid.
- Fast workouts
- A lighter shoe or XC shoe like the Nike Rival Waffle helps.
Where to buy
Milestone Running Shop in Pacific Beach or North Park. They employ runners who deeply understand the sport and can find the best shoe fit.
CIF rules
CIF-SDS rules permit non-school training both off-season and in-season. See the CIF-SDS Bylaw 600.1 announcement.
Lifting & Physio
What ends up as an injury usually starts months beforehand after several weeks of poor movement. Foam rolling, stretching, hydrating, and sleeping are all critical. To take full care of your body, I recommend these centers. They're run by athletes who deeply understand the connection between physiotherapy and athletic movement, as opposed to places with a siloed approach.
